Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixers Freeze-Dried Dog Food Review

One of the most important things we do as pet parents is to select the food we give our babies. We all want good, healthy, quality food for our pups, to help with longevity and quality of life. It’s also important that the dogs like it and want to eat it!

We’ve added Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixers: Duck Duck Goose flavor to our mealtime over the last few weeks. We’re excited to share how it went with you!

Our Experience with Stella & Chewy’s

Convenience:

I love that all I need to do with the Meal Mixers is add them to their food. The recommended amounts are for 1/4 cup scoops, and recommends 2 scoops for each girl based on their weight. Since they eat twice a day, I simply add a scoop to their food at each meal time (I use a 1/4 cup scooper for their food anyway, hello super convenient!)

Smoke, sadly, did not get to try Stella & Chewy’s this time around. He was on a specific diet recommended by the vet until we get him up to weight and handle some digestive issues he’s been having. That is why his bowl didn’t get any. But, as you can see, it was super easy to add these into the mealtime routine.

Simplicity:

The Stella & Chewy’s line uses quality ingredients to create quality products. One great thing about the Meal Mixers is that they aren’t meant to be a meal replacement, they’re meant to supplement and add to the meal. I found that these were great to simply add some extra nutrition when we’ve had a super physical day, or if we had adventures planned to help fuel up. It’s also easy on my mind. I’m not concerned about giving them too much food, as I simply add a scoop to their food. They’ve got some extra protein to help them after a day with a lot of physical activity or to fuel up prior to a physical day. I personally also add water to their food, it gives me some peace of mind with them consuming extra water with the freeze-dried goodies.

As you can see, it doesn’t take much to meet the appropriate amount based on their weight. Cricket is 30 lbs and Cheyenne is 40 lbs. The fact that it uses less food to meet nutritional requirements is evidence of quality ingredients and preparation.

The girl’s thoughts?

To put it mildly, the girls get WAY excited about meal time on a normal day. They practically quiver when waiting for their release word to eat their meal. When they see that red bag come out, they get stoked! Not only do they know they’ve got some extra yumminess coming their way, they know they’ve got a day of adventures coming too. Even Smoke gets excited when he sees the bag because he knows we’ve got a big day coming!

The bowls are completely licked clean when Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixers are added to our mealtime routine. And I’ve seen days where they don’t want to eat because they’re so exhausted after a fun day of hiking, camping, or sometimes when it’s just tooooo hot. On those days, you can tell they are eating simply because it is a requirement for life. Definitely not an issue this time! Every bite was gone and they’re licking their chops for more!!

Ultimate Decision

Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixer’s will definitely be added to our diet for adventure days and trips. We are in the process of beginning to switch to a raw feeding diet, but for the purpose of trying something new, we stuck with kibble. I did not want to overwhelm their systems too much. However, I have no concerns or fears of adding Stella & Chewy’s Meal Mixers to their raw diets either, once we have completely transitioned.

The Meal Mixers will also be great for our upcoming backpacking adventures as they are much easier and lighter to carry than the whole, fresh foods they will be eating.

I will also be keeping some on hand for days when I’m running short on time or supplies and just need to bulk their meals up a bit. It will also add variety to their diet, which they’ll love, as well as keep their systems adjusted to freeze-dried goodies so when we use them while camping and backpacking their bellies won’t be upset.
